Hasbro, Inc. 2019 Renewable Energy and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Statement

August 21, 2019

Hasbro continues its commitment to using renewable energy and achieving carbon neutrality across its owned and operated global operations. Hasbro purchased 23,525 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable energy certificates (RECs) to address virtually 100 percent1 (99.75%) of its 2018 global electricity consumption. Additionally, the company purchased carbon offsets in 2018 to address its global carbon footprint. Cumulatively, this reduction in Hasbro’s carbon footprint is similar to growing 701,576 trees per year for 10 years or not using 63,632 barrels of oil.

Hasbro 2018 Energy and Emissions Data Table

1 Hasbro’s renewable energy certificate (REC) purchases represent 99.75% of global electricity use from owned/operated facilities in 2018.

2 100% (5,448 MT CO2e) of the total direct emissions (5,448 MT CO2e) is balanced through carbon offsets.

3 100% (14,785 MWh) of the total U.S. electricity used (14,785 MWh) is derived from renewable energy sources and 0% (0 MWh) from non-renewable energy sources. Therefore, there are no sources of non-renewable electrical power used in the U.S.

4 99.75% (23,525 MWh) of the gross total electricity used (23,583 MWh) is derived from renewable energy sources and 0.25% (58 MWh) from non-renewable energy sources.

5 0.01% (1 MT Co2e) of the total indirect emissions (7,629 MT CO2e) is balanced through carbon offsets.

6 49.5% (14,785 MWh) of the total U.S. energy used (29,894 MWh) is derived from renewable energy sources and 50.5% (15,109 MWh) from non-renewable energy sources.

7 54.5% (23,525 MWh) of the gross total energy used (43,187 MWh) is derived from renewable energy sources and 45.5% (19,662 MWh) from non-renewable energy sources.

8 100% of Carbon Offsets (8,509 MT CO2e) are from landfill gas projects.

RECs are “currency” of the renewable energy market, representing all the environmental and social attributes of renewable energy generation. Hasbro purchased RECs and carbon offsets from 3Degrees, the nation’s leading provider of comprehensive clean energy services that enable organizations and individuals to transition towards a low-carbon economy.

The renewable energy certificates are from a mix of renewable resources including wind, solar, biomass, landfill gas, or hydroelectric sources and were independently verified and certified by the appropriate international standards agencies, including Green-e Energy National Standard, European Energy Certificate System, the I-REC Standard and the Climate Action Reserve.
