Hasbro, Inc. today announced its commitment to using clean and renewable resources in an effort to accelerate progress towards the company’s 2020 sustainability goals. For the2014 calendar year, Hasbro purchased carbon offsets and renewable energy certificates (RECs) to reduce the environmental impacts of its global owned/operated operations.

Hasbro purchased carbon offsets equivalent to the 9,965 metric tons CO2e associated with its global onsite fuel use, non-U.S. electricity consumption and U.S. employee business travel in 2014. This commitment to offset C02e through landfill gas capture was verified through Climate Action Reserve (CAR) and will reduce Hasbro’s greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) equal to growing 255,513 trees for 10 years or not using 23,174 barrels of oil.

Additionally, the company purchased 9,319 megawatt-hours of Green-e® Energy Certified RECs which represents 100 percent of its U.S. electricity consumption in 2014. This REC purchase supports U.S. wind power and will avoid Hasbro’s GHG emissions equal to growing 164,767 trees for 10 years or taking 1,353 cars off the road for one year.
